Food Glory Around G4 Station

Author: Leonardo  |  Category: Food, G4 Station

Many of our G4 guests have asked about the food around G4 Station and I’ve always asked back the same question”what kind of food that you like to eat?”  Because it’s a real complicating question to answer, since guests are spoilt for too many choices here! So now let me bring you the food trail around G4 ^^.

OK let’s start with the light food, for those who love to eat snack there is this one very famous local snack stall off all time OLD CHANG KEE. they serve from curry puff ( my all time favourite, yum yum ) to chicken nugget and they always make it fresh daily, coz the business is so good they don’t even have the change to keep it and sale it on the next day. The very good news, they’re just right across the street of G4 Station!

CHINESE FOOD

For those who like our local Chinese food and chicken rice. there this 4 famous stall that located just few steps away. 2 stall is our neighbour :)  (HALAL / no pork),

1 is just opposite G4 (HALAL) and another 1 is just 5 minutes walking distance( non HALAL).

The price is varies from SGD $ 5 to $15 per pax, depend on the order ;)

and if you guys walk around 5 min toward SIM LIM SQUARE you guys will find authentic Chinese food stall/ restaurant. that sell like ” Chili crab, roast meat, BBQ meat etc”

Food Courts

There are 2 food court around G4 and both are just a few minutes walking distance.

The 1st food court is the all time favourite food court at TEKKA MALL. the food court is located on the ground floor of the mall. they serve menu from indian to chinese food

Pic of TEKKA MALL

2nd food court will be the TEKKA FOOD CENTRE .The locations related to Tekka Centre Food Centre are represented by the flight path Superman would take between two points and may not be nearest by road. For example, Tekka Centre Food Centre is located 0.1 kilometre from Tekka Mall. it also located 0.1 kilometre from Ne7 Little India. Tekka Centre Food Centre is located 0.1 kilometre from G4.

The 3rd one is a newly open KOPITIAM which located at Blk 1 Rochor Road Rochor Centre # 01-506 (24hrs) (opposite TEKKA MALL)

OH MAN, this carroy cake look tasty!!!!

INDIAN FOOD

As our location is just few steps away froam LITTLE INDIA so there’s just too many option for indian food. so hereby i put a link that will link you guys for india food guide at little india. so india food lover click on the link www.littleindia.com.sg/food/food_index.htm

Famous Hawker Centre – Newton

Newton Food Centre (纽顿熟食中心) is a major food centre located in Newton, Singapore. The food centre was promoted by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) as a tourist attraction for sampling Singaporean cuisine. It was first opened in 1971 and it closed down in 2005 as the government wanted to revamp the food centre. The food centre then went through a major renovation before reopening on 1 July 2006.

The best places to eat in Singapore would be any hawker centre. The variety is astounding and the prices are low. There are many hawker centres, but Newton Food Centre must be one of the best. it’s easy to get to (just across from Newton MRT Station), it’s airy and there’re plenty of stalls to choose from. Most importantly, it’s still got the best oyster omelet, popiah, barbequed chicken wings and barbequed seafood (like stingray topped with sambal chilli) in the whole of Singapore. Shiok!!BEST!!

The best time to stop by Newton would be for dinner and supper. This usually means from 7.00 p.m. onwards. In the day, many stalls are not opened. More importantly, many stalls tend to have more than 1 stallholder – one in the day and one at night selling different foods. Inevitably, the night stallholder tends to be the “famous one”.

To go to NEWTON FOOD CENTRE you need to take bus no 48, 66 and 170 and it’s only few stop away from G4. Ask me or Waren or any of our friendly receptionists whoever is on duty at desk.

Affordable Restaurants

For travellers who prefer restaurants there are a few good restaurants at PARADIZ CENTRE ( 1 selegie road, 5 min walk). there are steamboat, japanese food, western food, thai, indonesian and lots more for you to discover

side and front view of PARADIZ CENTRE

DESSERT

The best dessert around G4 probably is the jelly beancurd (do hua). it so soft it will melt in your mouth slurpz.. and the best 1 is rochor beancurd, they do served other snack that goes well with their beancurd e.q egg tart, fried dough flitter (you tiao) etc. trust me IT’S GOOD.

ROCHOR original beancurd stall with its famous beancurd YUMMY!!!

But of course if you guys just wanna chill at G4 we do have a 24hrs cafe ” BACKYARD BISTRO” which serves chilled beer, great finger food, sandwiches and salad. by the way they also have pool table, free WIFI and sports channels. YEAH!!!!!

So this is the end of our food hunting for the moment, hope you enjoy it and hope you see you guys in G4. CHEERS!!!

4 Means of Transport to Make Your Way Down to G4 Station.

Author: Waren  |  Category: G4 Station, Travelling

  • By MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) – (or known as Subway in other country) will be the cheapest means of transport from Changi Airport directly to our doorstep. Not only it is fast and cheap, you can also enjoy the beautiful scenery in Singapore, but that is only for half of the trip, the other half will bring you down into the dark side of Singapore (Just joking) *Warning – Please don’t try this if you have alot of big and heavy luggage.*

The start of your trip will be heading to Changi Airport Station(CG2) which is located under Terminals 2 and 3, and is linked to the arrivals and departures by escalators and lifts. The first train arrives at around 0530hr and the last leaves at 2318hr. Any arrival before the first train and after the last train will leave you with option 2 which is the taxi. Get yourself a Smartcard from the ticketing machine which cost SGD2.90 per person (includes SGD1.00 refundable card) and hop on into the train.

It will take around 27minute to get to Cityhall Station(EW13/NS25) where you are suppose to drop and switch train to the opposite side of the platform. It will probably take a couple of minute for the train to arrival and before you knows it, you have reach Dhoby Ghaut Station(NS24/NE6) which is 1 stop away. At this point, drop off and follow the direction to take North-East line(purple color) *Note - Do not exit the train station yet or you will have to buy another ticket* Little India Station(NE7) will be 1 stop away from Dhoby Ghaut Station too.

Once you reach Little India Station(NE7) and soon after you step out of the train, turn right, up the escalator and exit the train station. Now you can choose to keep the Smartcard for memories or pop it back into the machine to get your SGD1.00 refund. *Note – at this point of time you are still underground.* Follow the way out, ignore the left and right escalator going up and head straight which lead you to a escalator which brings you down =.= Not to worry, keep on walking and if you follow my direction corrrectly, it will lead you to another escalator which bring you to the surface. This is Exit A of the Train Station and what’s in front of you now should be a public car park. Now walk diagonally across the car park and at the end of it you should be able to spot G4 Stationwhich is the building in yellow with bright yellow signboard. There, your journey has ended here and it take appromixately 35-40 minute from the airport to here.

  • By Taxi- over 15,000 air-conditioned cabs ply local roads and provide comfortable, hassle-free travel at a very reasonable cost. They can be flagged down 24 hours a day on most roads, with well-marked taxi-stands available outside most major shopping centres and hotels. At Singapore Changi Airport, the taxi stand is located just outside the Arrival Hall on Level 1 in Terminal 1 and at the end of the Arrival Hall on Level 1 in Terminal 2 (South Wing).

Hop in a taxi and tell the driver we are located at 11 Mackenzie Road which is a left turn from Selegie road before you enter into Little India. If he doesn’t get it, tell the driver we are just beside Selegie Center, opposite Old Rex Theatre and our location use to be a eatery, chicken rice~ Up til now if the driver still have no idea what are you talking about show him our map this should do the job. I suggest to change taxi if the driver still don’t get it =.= You will reach G4 Stationin around 20-25min and will cost you appromixately plus minus SGD20.

*Do take note of the extra surcharges when you hop on from the Airport, when it is peak hour, when it is after midnight and when you enter CBD zone (Central Business District)*

By BusFor maximum freedom, buy an Ez-link cardand hop onto a bus! The ez-link card can also be used on the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT). SBS Transit bus 36 runs between Orchard Road and Singapore Changi Airport. The public bus stations are located in Terminal 1 at Basement 2, and in Terminal 2 at Basement Level. Details of bus routes and fares are displayed at bus stations.

For those that want to take you time and enjoy the scenery. Take the Bus service no. 36 Board at PTB2 basement Changi Airport PTB2 and drop off at Stamford Road, SMU(Singapore Management University) Ask the bus driver to remind you to drop off if required. Now transfer to Bus service no.166 and alight at Little India Bus Station Little India Station. After you alight the bus turn left and head 50m straight you should be able to see Little India Station Exit A and a car park. Now walk diagonally across the car park and at the end of it you should be able to spot G4 Stationwhich is the building in yellow with bright yellow signboard. There, your journey has ended here and it take appromixately 1hour – 1hour 30minute from the airport to here. Oh ya, did i mention the timing for the bus service? The first bus arrives at around 0600hr and the last leaves at midnight. So anything beyond that will leave you with option 2.

*Exact fare is required. Check with the bus driver on the appropriate fare for your destination or visit the TransitLink website for the fare structure.*

By Airport Shuttle - The Airport Shuttle service uses a 9-seater coach and serves all hotels in Singapore with the exception of Changi Village Hotel and hotels on the Sentosa Island. The service leaves every 15 minutes from 0600hr to midnight and 30 minutes at other hours. Chartering is available. Please approach the Airport Shuttle Counter on the arrivals level.

Fare (Please pay at the Airport Shuttle Counter)

  • S$9.00 per Adult
  • S$6.00 per Child

Deepavali – The Festival Of Lights

Author: Benson  |  Category: G4 Station

Hi there, if you’re heading towards Singapore during this period, don’t miss the Festival of Lights, a Hindu celebration event in Singapore (and all parts of the world I suppose).

Quoted from Singapore Tourism Board’s Uniquely Singapore site,

Deepavali, the most important date of the Hindu calendar, occurs on one day during October, and in the ethnic quarter of Little India, the festivities last practically for the whole month of October.

Deepavali is the Festival of Lights, and marks the defeat of the evil  King Narakasura by the Lord Krishna.  All round the world, Hindus celebrate this day as the triumph of light over darkness, and of good over evil. It marks the new beginning for Hindu devotees, and is a great time of rejoicing and renewal. During this time, Little India throbs with evening roadside stalls, booming music and strings of colourful lights.  Shoppers throng the streets in search of the perfect sari to wear, or to fill their baskets with Indian foods and spices. Hindu homes are lighted with oil lamps , and offerings of sweetmeats and garlands of jasmine are placed at the family altar.

Here are some of the photos taken by our staff Lixing when he went poking around in Little India after working hours. You’ll have to excuse his photography skill, he isn’t Jody ;) Oh, Little India is just minutes walking distance away from us too!

10 Good Reasons Why You Should Stay with G4 Station

Author: Benson  |  Category: G4 Station

Hi I’m Benson, your hitman and general consultant in G4 Station. You usually see me popping by during the day or the night or even hanging behind Backyard Bistro chilling out.

Now why should you really stay with us at G4 Station? There’re really like 99 reasons to go about with but I’ll truncate it and just list out 10. *Hmm

1. We’re Very New and Affordable

Really.. New!

Really.. New!

Though Leo mentioned we’re 2 months old off the soft launch and official opening, our furnitures and fixtures alongside with our facilities are very, very new. Walk in, have a whiff of our beds and cupboards and you’ll get what I really mean.

And according to Waren on his previous blog entry, we’ve just revised the price for a promo during the peak period in December, talking about affordability! This is a good chance that if you’re transiting from a hotel to a hostel, you could try us. I’m sure you’d have no problems and who knows you might grow to like us more ;)

2. Our Location is Pretty Ace

Forgive me other hostel friends, we’ve done our homework before we decide on this location and analysed it for long before opening this joint. G4 Station is just maximum 3 minutes away from Little India MRT Station (MRT is Singapore’s very own subway), in the middle of almost all 3 MRT Stations namely Bugis, Little India and Dhoby Gaut.

So you’re very much almost in the middle of everywhere within really short distance, walkable to Orchard, Bugis, a subway stop away from Clarke Quay and much much more spots.

3. We’re Almost Really Squeaky Clean 24/7

Forgive me if it isn’t after 10pm, but we have our two permanent staffs, Lixing and Ah Thiak who works diligently from morning till evening to make sure your beds, your bathrooms and your linens are well taken care of.

They’re really helpful and won’t hesitate to help you with your luggage upstairs even!

4. Free Internet PC Stations & WIFI Enabled.. BEDS!

During the planning phase of the premises, we’ve set aside almost 10% allotment of PCs for our guests to use.. free of charge. So what happens is that we have 8 stations which allows our guests to do video conferencing, Skype or whatever they wish.

4 Internet PC Stations, another 4 on Clarke Quay Floor

4 Internet PC Stations, another 4 on Clarke Quay Floor

All computers are well taken care of and we requests that all our guests sanitise their hands before using the keyboards and mouse for hygiene purposes.

And if that’s not enough, our beds are WIFI enabled (pun intended) from the bottom all the way to the top on the 5th floor!

5. We Have Nintendo Wii!

Guests having fun swinging Nintendo Wii Controllers

Guests having fun swinging Nintendo Wii Controllers

Uhm. Bowling, Baseball and Tennis at our hostel? Yes, it’s all virtually possible with Nintendo Wii.

6. Helpful Staffs

During the interview process of getting our staffs, we had them screened really carefully. We had them on lie detectors, kinda like those variety TV show ‘Moment of Truth’. So here you go, we have plentiful helpful receptionists who’re on 24 hours standby and understands English perfectly like Waren, Leo, Joyce, Benson, Sidi and John.

All Helpful and English Speaking Staffs

All Helpful and English Speaking Staffs

Well sometimes they’re just being too helpful and joins in any kind of fun that guests are having (Like punching guests on boxing games with Nintendo Wii..)

7. Movie Screenings

I wouldn’t say we have the best collection in terms of movies, but hey, we have a comfy 42 inch LCD TV mounted with a Asus E*PC. So you can watch youtube videos anytime too. Also take note that we have a really cosy rooftop terrace on the top floor which is perfect for socialising, booze and watching TV too.

8. In-house Shower Gel and Hot/ Cold Shower! Really Safe Environment

Hmm, nothing to boast about, but our Lavender 2-in-1 shampoo and showergel is smells pretty good if you forget to bring yours. Also our hot/cold shower is 24/7 on for your enjoyment :)

I’d like to reiterate on the safe environment because it has got nothing, absolutely nothing to do with the cameras I’m going to mention. We have a total of 25 wired cameras pin-pointing all angles of the premises apart from the shower rooms.

In case anything happens, with a press of a red button, the Singapore SWAT team will be activated.

9. Backyard Bistro Screens Soccer and Sells Booze

Ah you should look at our Bistro. They sell good beer at affordable price. Currently they’re working on price discounts for our in-house guests too but that will have to wait since they’re newly opened (Just 2 weeks old). We have them serving everyone breakfast too!

Just look at the ambience of Backyard Bistro

Just look at the ambience of Backyard Bistro

And they have cable TV for soccer channels, so if you’re a fan of sports like the Formula One, Barclay’s Premier League (The Former EPL) or La Liga, head down behind for their projector screening of the matches!

You have pool table to play too if you’re bored.

10. We Listen

At G4 Station, we listen. That’s why we insist on guests filling our feedback forms so we could work and improve on the stay and experience with us. Of course, things like having a lift and double glazed windows would take sometime, but it’ll come.. (I hope :P )

We Listen, Trust Us :)

We Listen, Trust Us :)

Though it’s becoming more like a hotel, but we reckon this should be the segment that we’re hitting on. Giving our guests the ace experience, that’s why we brand ourselves as ‘Your Premium Backpackers’ Inn‘ There are really many more reasons but I’ll stop here in case people starts complaining.

So hopefully there isn’t any hestitation now from you to start booking with us for your next trip to Singapore. Seeya and hope you’d holla me when you see me!

The Grand G4 Station Opening

Ok ok, let’s get back to our grand opening on Sat(181008). Although it is my off day, but still make the effort to come down and join this ceremony as i felt it was a important day for G4 station.

G4 Station Team Cheese~!!

Oh gosh! It was damn crowded that fateful day haha..Even though the Air-con was on full-blast and at the lowest, i still feel the same inside or outside the building lol..The Start of the ceremony begin with the blessing from the Chinese lion dance and Kirin dance. It is believe that the noise =.= they make will ward off all evil and eventually bless this place with good luck..It ended with “cai qin” and arranging a quote in Chinese using orange which is ”Yi ben wang li” which mean prosper to your business..Sorry for the noise cause to the guest who were here that day. Here are some of the photos of the events:

After that, there is this traditional ritual going on by the monk we invited to bless this place, each and every room of our building must be open so that bad luck goes away and good luck will enter. I did not follow, but what i saw is the monk started a series of chant and the guest followed them around the building. (Didn’t manage to take the pic of the monk cause they were shy) lol

After that it is buffet time!! Hm..no photo of the food we ate blame our photographer!! Just joking Jody=p Chill chill=) Anyway after that is a series of photoshooting and some games at our Backyard Bistro muahaha..I am going to end this with a series of photo..Thank you for spending your time reading this ^^ Have a nice day! All the best to G4 Station.

Special thanks to the team that day and the families member that helped out.

* All photos taken was provided by Jody Tan our so-so photographer* (LOL don’t kill me if you see this)

Heres the rest of the pics that our angry photographer send us after seeing what i wrote lol..
